Entering Midterm or Final Grades in Blackboard Grade Center

  1. Open the Blackboard Learn course in which you are preparing grades for submission.
  2. Go to the Full Grade Center.
  3. Find or create a column to represent the Final/Midterm grade. There are a few options for types of columns:
    • Choose Create Column to enter grades manually or import from Excel with no calculations done in Blackboard.
    • Choose Create Calculated Column then Total Column to calculate grades based on the sum of all or some of your Grade Center columns. You can use this column type to drop grades such as the lowest exam score as well. Learn more about total columns here.
    • Choose Create Calculated Column then Weighted Column to calculate grades based on percentage totals. Learn more about weighted columns here.
    • Choose Create Calculated Column then Average Column to calculate grades based on the sum of all or some columns divided by the number of columns. Learn more about average columns here.
The Midterm column MUST be named Midterm with an uppercase M and no spaces or dashes in order to pull the grades into myBama.
The Final column MUST be named Final with an uppercase F and no spaces or dashes in order to pull the grades into myBama.
  1. The column must have Primary Display type of Letter or Text. To do this, click on the dropdown arrow to the right of the column title. Click on Edit Column Information. Set the Primary Display to Letter or Text and choose Submit.
    • In order to use Blackboard’s automatic conversion from score or percentage to letter grade, the primary display must be Letter. The default letter grade schema in Blackboard Learn is shown below and can be edited in the Grade Center by selecting Manage then Grading Schemas.
      Grades scored between: 97% and 100% = A+ 94% and less than 97% = A 90% and less than 94% = A- 87% and less than 90% = B+ 84% and less than 87% = B 80% and less than 84% = B- 77% and less than 80% = C+ 74% and less than 77% = C 70% and less than 74% = C- 67% and less than 70% = D+ 64% and less than 67% = D 60% and less than 64% = D- 0% and less than 69% = F

Assigning Non-Attendance Grade Reason in MyBama

Due to federal financial aid regulations, when a grade of F is assigned, instructors are required to select a reason for the grade. There are three possible reasons for grades of F: Earned, Never Attended or Stopped Attending. MyBama will not allow grades to be submitted until all F grades have been assigned a reason. Learn more about non-attendance grade reporting rules here.

  1. When submitting Midterm or Final grades in myBama, you can import grades from Blackboard, or assign them by clicking the Grade dropdown menu by the appropriate name.
  2. When a grade of F is assigned, an additional drop-down box will appear in the F/NC Grade Reason column.
  3. Select the reason for the grade of F. The choices are Earned, Never Attended and Stopped Attending.
  4. When Stopped Attending is chosen, the Last Attended Date box will appear. Enter the last date the student attended in this box in the MM/DD/YYYY format. The date entered must be within the range of start and end dates for the semester you’re grading.
  5. If you do not enter a date in the Stopped Attending column, or if you do not enter a reason for the F grades, you will get a notice when you attempt to submit the grades. The notice will read: “Grades of F/NC require a reason to be selected in the F/NC Grade Reason column. Please correct the highlighted row(s).”
  6. When you click OK, the fields that need more data will be highlighted in red. Supply the required information, and resubmit the grades, and your grades will be accepted.
